A daruma is thought to bring good luck. One eye is painted in when a person sets out on a task and then the other eye is painted in when his/her goal has been achieved. The yellow daruma is associated with providing security and protection! Daruma are closely linked to the Japanese proverb “nanakorobi yaoki” (fall seven times and stand up eight) - weighted at the base they always try to right themselves when knocked over.
